The City of Texarkana, Texas Bowie County Family Health Clinic will host the Annual Health and Wellness Fair on Thursday, May 7^th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Southwest Center located at 3222 W 7^th Street.

 Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in free wellness screenings, including blood pressure and glucose checks, as well as take advantage of other available services. A blood donation drive will also be held for those interested in giving back and supporting those in need.

This free, family-friendly event aims to connect the community with valuable healthcare resources by offering access to a variety of local and regional vendors.

 Local and regional vendors are encouraged to reserve their booth space as soon as possible. Rather than charging a booth fee, vendors are asked to provide a door prize that will be raffled off to attendees throughout the event.

Keep Texarkana Beautiful along with the City of Texarkana, Texas will host the Annual Spring Clean-Up, on Saturday, April 11th, beginning at 8:00 AM. This citywide initiative is designed to foster community engagement, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance the overall appearance of Texarkana’s neighborhoods.

Residents and volunteers are encouraged to participate in a variety of beautification activities, including:

• Litter and debris removal

• Community gardening

• Park and greenspace enhancements

• General neighborhood clean-up efforts

Project sites are listed below as well as roll-off disposal locations for residents to conveniently dispose of waste and debris:

• Beverly Community Garden, 405 Robbins St

   *Roll-off: Beverly Community Center, 901 Lumpkin St

• Rosehill Community Garden, 1303 Milam St

   *Roll-off: The Scholars Center, 1303 Milam Street

• Liberty-Eylau - Grady T Wallace Park, 3419 Leopard Drive

   *Roll-off: Findley Park, 410 Findley St.

• Highland Park Neighborhood, 2401 Hazel St

   *Roll-off: Freedom Grace Fellowship, 2401 Hazel st

• New Town, 2123 Spruce St.

   *Roll-off: Polly Chapel Church, 2123 Spruce St.

As a reminder, items such as batteries, tires, paint, and large appliances are not permitted in roll-off containers.

The City of Texarkana, Texas has announced it will open applications for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding on Monday, March 16, 2026, and will be available online, in person, or by email. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on April 20, 2026.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federal program that provides funding to cities to help improve local neighborhoods and support community projects. These funds can be used for things like improving public facilities, repairing homes, supporting economic development, and funding programs that benefit residents, especially in areas with greater financial need.

In past years, local organizations like Mission Texarkana, Randy Sams Outreach Shelter, Haven Homes, and The Scholars have received funding to assist with public service projects or help support their day-to-day operations.

CDBG Administrator Megan Price encourages organizations in Texarkana, Texas to take advantage of this opportunity to make needed improvements.

“The Community Development Block Grant is a great opportunity for our local organizations to receive much needed funds for the work they are doing,” said Price. “This program focuses on helping communities identify their biggest needs and invest in projects that will make a lasting difference for residents.”

These funds can also be used for improvement projects such as building repairs or additions, façade upgrades, and park improvements. Randy Sams Outreach Shelter has used funds for upgrades such as new awnings and lighting, while Texarkana Texas Parks and Recreation received funding to install new playground equipment at Kidtopia in downtown Texarkana and new bleachers at the Southwest Center. The New Town Neighborhood Association have also benefited from this program with a new walking trail in their community.

To be eligible for funding, organizations must be either a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or a government agency located within the Texarkana, Texas city limits. Projects must benefit low-to-moderate income families or be located in an area that primarily serves low-to-moderate income residents. Funding will be available for the grant period of October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, and will be distributed on a reimbursement basis.
